Information

TitleLayer 2 PTPv2 packets are duplicated when passing through an EXOS switch
Symptoms
Layer 2 PTPv2 packets are duplicated when passing through an EXOS switch
Environment
  • All EXOS Platforms
  • EXOS Versions 15.X, 16.X, 21.X
  • Layer 2 PTPv2
Cause
The PTP frames are both hardware and software forwarded, resulting in a duplication.  This is a software defect and can be tracked via CR xos0071877.
Resolution
A software upgrade is required to resolve.

Fixed Versions:
  • EXOS 21.1.5 (future)
  • EXOS 16.2. (future)
Workaround:

Apply an ACL with a deny action matching on the PTPv2 destination MAC address.  This should be applied to "any" or to all ports where PTPv2 traffic ingress the switch.  Due to the specifics of the software issue and ACL precedence, the PTP packet will still be forwarded by the CPU even though the "deny" action is used in the ACL.

Example ACL:

entry l2_ptp {
        if {
                ethernet-destination-address 01:1b:19:00:00:00;
        } then {
                count block_ptp;
                deny;
        }
}
