Information

TitleLink doesn't come up with 1G/10G dual speed SFP optic
Symptoms
  • 10GE Link with dual speed 1G/10G SFP optic cannot be active with default 10GE port configuration
  • 1GE Link with dual speed 1G/10G SFP optic can be active by setting speed 1000, duplex as full, and disabling auto-negotiation
Environment
  • Summit X670V/X670
  • Summit X670-G2
  • Summit X770
  • BlackDiamond X8
  • BlackDiamond 8800 series
  • EXOS 15.3
  • EXOS 15.6
  • INTEL 1G/10G Dual Speed SFP+(Model: FTLX8571D3BCV-IT)
  • FINISAR 1G/10G Dual Speed SFP+ (Model:FTLX8571D3BCV)

Cause
When dual speed SFP optic is recognized into a switch at first, the SFP Optic was not updated with correct speed information from the switch unless explicit configuration to change speed is executed.  This led into inconsistent speed information between SFP Optic and Switch and makes the link not become active.

Resolution
1. In EXOS 15.3, use Extreme certified SFP+ optic modules. If there is no choice except to use dual speed SFP optic for 10G connection, upgrade to 15.6 or later which has a workaround to activate 10G link

For the 1GE Link : change speed to 1G
  • Type configure port <port-number> auto off speed 1000 duplex full
2. In EXOS 15.6 code, workaround is to change speed by CLI command

For the 10GE Link : change speed to 1G and then 10G.
  • Type configure port <port-number> auto off speed 1000 duplex full
  • Type configure port <port-number> auto off speed 10000 duplex full
For the 1GE Link : change speed to 1G
  • Type configure port <port-number> auto off speed 1000 duplex full
Additional notes
Note that third party optics are not supported, and this article only offers a possible work around. If the optics still do not work after performing this workaround, please test with Extreme Networks optics.
