TitleMeshpoint links refreshing often and radio channels not adhering to configured smart-rf channels in a WiNG Meshconnex deployment
Symptoms
  • The meshpoint links are refreshing often (by default every 30 minutes) causing mesh instability
  • The channels on the radio the meshpoint is mapped to are not adhering to the channels configured in the smart-rf policy
Environment
  • WiNG controllers
  • WiNG APs
  • WiNG 5.x
  • Meshconnex
  • 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios and channels
  • Web UI
  • CLI
  • SSH or Console connection (baud rate 11500 or 19200)
Cause
  1. When the channel on the radio mapped to the meshpoint is set to the default 'smart' value, mesh Auto Channel Selection (acs) is enabled since smart-rf is not used when a meshpoint is mapped to a radio. By default, mesh auto channel will re-evaluate channel conditions every 30 minutes per the preconfigured  default hold-time value:
    1. Controllers:

    2. APs:
      • Configuration >> Devices >> Device Overrides>> Select AP >> Meshpoint >> Select Meshpoint >> Edit >> Auto Channel Selection >> Dynamic Root Selection >> Meshpoint Root >> Channel Hold Time

  1. When mesh Auto Channel Selection is enabled, the channel list used is the one configured in the rf-domain. If nothing has been defined and the default values are being used, then all channels will be scanned.

Resolution
  1. Prevent the periodic channel condition re-evaluation by setting the channel hold time to zero (0)

  1. In the RF-domain configure the channel/s you would like the radios to use. If default values are defined, all channels will be scanned.

If further troubleshooting is required, open a tech support case. Enable logging. Enable meshpoint debugging by running the cli command "debug wireless meshpoint level debug". Wait for a change to occur and  send us the tech support dumps for analysis.
