TitleNAC Captive portal not functioning, Packets seen on the NAC interface but NAC not responding because of Interface configuration
Symptoms
  • NAC captive portal will not render on end systems
  • Tcpdump on the NAC shows that client traffic is being seen on the NAC but NAC does not respond
Environment
  • NetSight Suite
  • NetSight NAC Manager
  • PBR redirect method used to redirect traffic
Cause
NAC interface set to "Management Only" disables the squid process from being able to redirect traffic to itself to respond. Putting the NAC IP address in a browser URL will pop the web browser but PBR traffic has does not re-write the destination IP of the internet bound traffic. Squid is the traffic re-director that allows this traffic to be processed by the NAC
Resolution
  1. Click the NAC appliance that is experiencing the issue
  2. Click the "Configuration" tab
  3. Under the "Interface Summary" section click the "Edit" button
  4. Click the drop down for "Mode" and select "Management, Registration & Remediation"
