TitleNetSight eval has expired, unable to load console to deploy new license, cannot find license key on server
Symptoms
  • NetSight evaluation license has expired
  • Device limit has been exceeded with existing licenses on device
  • Loading NetSight console indicates error that device count has exceeded, but there is no method to install new license
Environment
  • Netsight
  • Extreme Management Center
Cause
  • Evaluation license has expired
  • Licensing is out of conformance
Resolution

If NetSight is installed on a Linux platform: 

Apply license with appropriate license count.
      1.  SSH to NetSight appliance
      2.  Change directory to license directory:

cd /usr/local/Extreme_Networks/Netsight/appdata/license
      3.  View existing license list:
ls
      4.  Remove all licenses that are no longer relevant (eg expired eval, or old unused licenses) 
rm <LICENSE_NAME>.lic
      5. Using winSCP move the rest of the licenses to your local PC for safe keeping, and after copied remove them from the license directory. The license directory should now be empty

      6.  Change directory to scripts directory 
cd /usr/local/Extreme_Networks/Netsight/scripts
       7.  Stop NetSight services 
./stopserver.sh
       8.  Start NetSight services 
./startserver.sh
       9.  Reload NetSight launch page by navigating to NetSight URL: http://<NETSIGHT_IP_ADDRESS>:8080
      10.  Click "Console" hyperlink
      11.  Prompt will appear to insert appropriate NetSight license


If NetSight is installed on a Windows platform: 
  1. Get access to the NetSight server either locally, or remote (RDP)
  2. Navigate to the <install_directory>/NetSight/appdata/license directory
  3. Remove any unnecessary licenses, and move all other licenses out of the license directory so that the directory is complete empty
  4. Click Start --> Run --> and type "services", or click "Start" and just type "services" and open the services manager (Depending on version of Windows)
  5. Restart the NetSight server service
  6. Reload the NetSight launch page by navigating to NetSight URL: http://<NetSight_IP_Address>:8080
  7. Click the "Console" hyperlink
  8. Prompt will appear to insert appropriate NetSIght license, including any that you've previously moved to the Desktop
