TitleNetsight: Receiving an 'Unknown Username' error in mibtools
Symptoms
  • When querying a device in Mibtools using SNMP v3, the query fails with the error 'Unknown User'.
  • SNMP v3 settings on the device match the Netsight profile
  • Also entering in the SNMPv3 credentials manually into MibTools results in the same error
  • Netsight can contact the device via icmp, but not SNMP
Environment
  • Netsight v6
  • Netsight v7
Cause
There are some third party devices that respond differently to snmp requests.
Resolution
Within the Netsight Console options menu:

1.  Click on Tools  and then Options
2.  Check the box for Redirect Client/Server SNMP Communications.
