Information

TitleNew laptops with Qualcomm QCA61x4A NICs have issues on 38xx, but not on 39xx APs
Symptoms
  • Connectivity issues for clients connecting to 38XX series AP's
  • Client unable to get DHCP from 38XX AP's
  • Reboot of AP solves the problem for some amount of time
  • If laptop is running on battery power issue is seen
Environment
  • ExtremeWireless
  • IdentiFi Wireless
  • AP3800 series AP's
  • Dell Latitude 7389 with Qualcomm QCA61X4A 802.11 ac card
  • Reboot of AP
  • Network card drivers
Cause
The cause was some kind of a power saving feature in the driver. It was very deceiving as a reboot of the AP would resolve the issue for a short time as the reboot would jump start some process in the driver. And the other odd part was we did not see it happening on the 3900 series AP's. We found that if the laptop remained plugged in rather than running only with a battery the problem did not happen.
Resolution
The final resolution to this issue was upgrading the drivers on the Qualcomm NIC card from 12.0.0.318 broken driver to the fixed driver version of 12.0.0.448
