Information

Title"RADIUS_SHAREDSECRETKEY_DECODE_FAILED error message
Symptoms
  • Wireless users cannot authenticate to radius server
  • When clicking the test button after selecting the radius server under WLAN/Auth & Acct screen of the controller GUI and entering a username, you get the error message,"RADIUS_SHAREDSECRETKEY_DECODE_FAILED
Environment
  • Identifi Wireless
  • All software versions
Cause
When the radius server is decoding requests (e.g. "Access-Request", "Accounting-Request"), the radius decode process will automatically verify the request authenticator and the Message-Authenticator attribute, if present. If the request doesn't check out, decode will raise an error (ie. if shared secret being received on radius server does not match its own shared-secret)
Resolution
Ensure that the shared secret password for the configured radius servers on the controller match the shared secret passwords on the radius servers themselves.

Verify Wireless and NAC shared secrets match.  If NAC default shared secret is also set on the Wireless controller, verify there is not a shared secret override configured on the NAC under:
Switches --> Edit the Controller in question ---> Advanced --> Override Shared Secret
