Information

TitleS-Series BGP prefix-list route-map filtering does not appear to be working or taking effect
Symptoms
  • BGP prefix-list route-map filtering does not appear to be working or taking effect
  • Example configuration which is permitting all networks to be advertised not only the one in the prefix list:
route-map bgp ISP permit 5
set as 3 as-path-set
exit
route-map bgp ISP permit 10
match prefix-list out-list
exit

router bgp 33333
bgp router-id 10.10.10.1
neighbor 192.168.0.10 remote-as 22222
neighbor 192.168.0.10 route-map ISP out
network 10.10.10.0/24
network 20.20.20.0/24
network 30.30.30.0/24

ip prefix-list out-list seq 5 10.10.10.0/24
Environment
  • S-Series
  • All firmware version
  • BGP Route-Map Filtering
Cause
A lower sequence Route-map is not matching on the prefix-list so it is translated as "permit all"
route-map bgp ISP permit 5
set as 3 as-path-set
(Act as permit all as nothing is being referenced to filter on a prefix list)
exit
Resolution
In the above example configuration, the first route-map sequence should be combined with the second list and you would end up with a single route-map as follows:
route-map bgp ISP permit 5
match prefix-list out-list
set as 3 as-path-set
exit
