« Go Back

Information

TitleS-Series : Gratuitous ARPs for directed-broadcast addresses are installed into the ARP table
Symptoms
  • If routing to a directed-broadcast address ( such as Wake on Lan ) an arp request can be incorrectly sent and arp entry populated based on the first to reply.
  • can get a unicast MAC address for a directed-broadcast in the arp table
  • incorrectly routed directed broadcast
Environment
  • S-Series
  • Firmware 8.61.01
  • Directed-Broadcast
  • Wake on Lan
Cause
If we attempt to route to a directed-broadcast address (via an "ip directed-broadcast" interface), the first packet goes out with a broadcast DMAC.
After that, an ARP request is sent out and if a unicast response is received, it is installed.
There are two problem there: first is
  1. that ARP requests shouldn't be sent for directed-broadcast addresses
  2. the responses shouldn't be installed.
Resolution
Upgrade to firmware 8.62.03
