Information

TitleS-Series: Installing a replacement Fabric Module in a S-Chassis fails and enters reboot cycle
Symptoms
  • S-Series: Installing a replacement Fabric Module in a S-Chassis fails and enters reboot cycle
  • replacement of an S180 fabric blade in a bonded chassis fails with constant reboot
  • mulitple rolling resets with DSI exceptions when installing Fabric card into S chassis
  • Exc Vector: DSI exception (0x00000300)
  • Thread Name: tNvFinIn
  • <0>NvDist[13.tNvFinIn]nvDistInitFinal: nonvol_xcopy of chassis store failed (src=/nvNfsRem.004/0, dest=/flash1/nonvol/0), errno(0x193a91c)
  • <3>NonVol[13.tNvFinIn]nonvol_copy:failed to open file (/nvNfsRem.004/0/b0000000.02f), (S_rpcLib_RPC_TIMEDOUT)
Environment
  • S-Series
  • Fabric Module
  • S180 Hardware
  • VSB
  • igmp multicast
  • static mac multicast
  • mirroring
  • Firmware 8.21.02.0001
Cause
An S180 fabric blade, when is inserted into a chassis where multicast traffic (which is other than VLAN flooded traffic) is present, may got stuck on constant reboot with error message:
<3>NonVol[13.tNvFinIn]nonvol_copyStream:failed to read (75),(S_rpcLib_RPC_TIMEDOUT
On 8.21.02 this timeout may also result in a rolling DSI reset
This can happen on either bonded or non-bonded chassis.

Resolution
  1. The rolling DSI exception (0x00000300) reset is fixed in 8.22.04.0005
  2. The nonvol copy issue (RPC_TIMEOUT) is fixed in 8.32.01.0021 and 8.41.01.xx and later
Workaround :  It is possible to work around this issue by disabling the following protocols during blade insertion if they are running
  1. igmp mulitcast
  2. static mac multicast
  3. mirroring

Permanent solution is to upgrade firmware.
