Information

TitleSNMP communication lost after EXOS upgrade
Symptoms
  • After an EXOS upgrade, SNMP communication is lost.
  • High snmpMaster process after EXOS upgrade.
Environment
  • EXOS
  • Switch upgrade from 15.3.4.6 or 15.4.2.8  to (15.5.3.4, 15.5.4.2, or 15.7.2.9)
Cause
New SNMP configuration is added in 15.5.3.4 that can cause SNMP MIB lookups to fail.  This can also cause the snmpMaster process to run high when NMS programs continuously poll the device because of receiving bad SNMP data from the switch.

Configuration to look for in SNMP that can cause this issue:

configure snmpv3 delete mib-view defaultUserView subtree 1.0
configure snmpv3 delete mib-view defaultAdminView subtree 1.0
configure snmpv3 delete mib-view defaultNotifyView subtree 1.0
disable snmpv3 default-group
disable snmpv3 default-user
Resolution
Revert the commands with the below commands to add the default MIB-views back to SNMP and enable snmpv3 if it is disabled.

configure snmpv3 add mib-view "defaultUserView" subtree 1.0/00 type included
configure snmpv3 add mib-view "defaultAdminView" subtree 1.0/00 type included
configure snmpv3 add mib-view "defaultNotifyView" subtree 1.0/00 type included
enable snmpv3 default-group
enable snmpv3 default-user
