« Go Back

Information

TitleSSH session drops on remote sites for WiNG devices
Symptoms
User connects to a remote site AP or controller and the session is getting disconnected over SSH, when you run any command.
Environment
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG APs
  • WirelessWiNG
  • WiNG v5.X Software
Cause
MTU package size is not big enough to handle the traffic between peers
Resolution
Connect to the adopting controller via CLI, After that, modify the firewall policy mapped to the device for allowing the traffic to be handled correctly. Modifying the following line allows the flow to establish the session correctly:
>en
# conf t
# firewall-policy nameofyourpolicy
# ip tcp adjust-mss value (for the TCP MSS maximum value)
# comm wr

Where value must be 40 bytes lower the maximum output you get without fragmenting the packet. This could be check doing the following:
ping <remote-ap-ip-address> size <value> dont-fragment
