  • Syslog messages:
<166>Feb 9 15:26:01 172.16.0.4-1 NIM[139289856]: nim_intf_map_api.c(420) xxxxx %% internal interface number xxxxx out of range
Environment
  • SecureStack
  • B5-Series
  • Firmware 6.42.05.0001
Cause
An issue with CDP protocol triggers the system to print messages similar to "<166>Feb 9 15:26:01 10.0.0.10-1 NIM[139289856]: nim_intf_map_api.c(420) 12879 %% internal interface number 12001 out of range" when "show neighbors" command is executed.
Resolution
Upgrade system to firmware 6.61.02.0007 or superior.
Additional notes
The "Changes and Enhancements in 6.61.02.0007" on page 18 (CR # 15933) of the the firmware release notes provides the following information: 
15933 Corrected an issue in CDP which could result in an error “NIM[164832176]: nim_intf_map_api.c(420) 1083 % internal interface number 21021 out of range" when the "show neighbors" command was executed.
