Switch reboot causing ISC link blocked on ERPS MLAG setup

« Go Back

Information

TitleSwitch reboot causing ISC link blocked on ERPS MLAG setup
Symptoms

  • When a switch failed/rebooted on ERPS MLAG setup, it blocks the data VLAN across ISC link (not ISC vlan).
  • After 5 minutes (WTR expired) it will be restored.
Environment

  • Summit Al
  • EXOS All
Cause
  • This issue is happening because when WTR is run, the ISC link is active for MLAG connectivity but it is blocked for all the data VLAN.
  • On this condition, both the MLAG peers will receive packets from  GRM switches. And as the MLAG is active, the MAC address of the GRM switches gets check pointed on the ISC ports causing the MACMoves.
Resolution

Explanation:

  • ERPS protocol requires the use of WTR to make sure the ring is stable before reverting back to RPL getting blocked after a failure goes away.
  • We cannot change the way ERPS works as a protocol. ERPS protocol requires the use of WTR to make sure the ring is stable before reverting back to RPL getting blocked after a failure goes away.
  • MLAG + ERPS feature will take time for intensive testing and fix by our engineering team. As of now, no recommendation to use this combination MALG + ERPS.

Solution:

  • Based on our Engineering team recommendation the best solution that we feel is to use EAPS + MLAG combination.
  • Please contact GTAC for further queries.
