« Go Back

Information

TitleT-Mobile devices drop text messages sent from Netsight / Extreme Management Center
Symptoms
  • Verify PINs from NAC/Access Control Gateway never arrive at phone.
  • Captive portal PINS do not work to T-Mobile smartphones

Environment
  • T-Mobile
  • NAC
  • Access Control
  • NAC Portal
Cause
Text PIN messages should be less than 160 characters. Customer was using an exchange and a Cisco Mail Gatway Server that were both adding a company footer to all messages.
Resolution
You may need to get a way for this message to be delivered via trace or to an end station to review it's size.

A bypass was provided so the Mail went from Netsight / EMC directly to the Cisco Mail device, and then a rule was added to put in no footers, keeping the message small, just a sender and the PIN.

Other vendors, at the time, appeared to not enforce the text length with the footer, and still went through. T-Mobile did not.
