Tagged traffic is allowed in the untagged vlan on a port

« Go Back

Information

TitleTagged traffic is allowed in the untagged vlan on a port
Symptoms

Traffic is being flooded by the switch or learnt on an untagged port even though the other side of the port is tagged in the same VLAN.

Environment
Exos All
Summit and Black Diamond switches

Cause
- The issue is seen only when the same tag is configured for the vlan which has this untagged port.
- This is an expected behaviour.

Resolution
Below is the working behavior of tagged and untagged port as per the current EXOS hardware design:
  • In untagged port, if traffic arrives with the VLAN tag (tag should be same as untagged VLAN), it would be processed.
  • In tagged port, if untagged traffic arrives, the packet will be dropped.
