The SNMP user specified in the Profile does not get "write-view" during the ZTP+ process

« Go Back

Information

TitleThe SNMP user specified in the Profile does not get "write-view" during the ZTP+ process
Symptoms
When enforcing the device in policy manager you may see the below error messages
Contacting device . ERROR : SNMP Error: No Access (6). The attribute(s) contained in the failed SNMP packet were: etsysCosEnableState.0 (enabled)
Contacting device . ERROR : SNMP Error: No Access (6). The attribute(s) contained in the failed SNMP packet were: extremeSaveConfiguration.0 (saveToCurrent)

The reason is after adding the switch via ZTP+ you can still see the device from Console and OneView but you may not be able to modify the device configurations.
If you check the "show configuration snmp" the SNMP Group will not have the "write-view"

Write-View will be missing
configure snmpv3 add access <Groupname> sec-model usm sec-level priv read-view "defaultUserView" notify-view "defaultNotifyView"

Environment
  • EXOS All
  • Netsight from v7.0.6.27
  • NetSight ZTP+ Configuration has the "Discovered Device Actions > Add Trap Receiver" option enabled.
  • The Device Access Profile is configured to use a SNMPv3 Credential.
  • The OneView > Administration > Options > Trap > Configuration > SNMPv3 Credential Name option is set to use the same "SNMPv3 Credential"
Cause
When the ZTP+ Configuration is processed on the device, it appears that the SNMPv3 Management configuration is completed first.  Then, the SNMP Notification configuration is run, which ends-up over-writing the "access" settings for the SNMPv3 user.
Resolution
This issue is  tracked in the CR app0000170 and will be fixed soon.
Ideal workaround until the fix version available is to Uncheck the Add Trap Receiver option in the ZTP+ Add Device Actions and add it later from Console or OneView after the ZTP+ Process.
