« Go Back

Information

TitleTraps are not displaying port alias information in NetSight Console > Event Logs
Symptoms
  • Traps are not displaying port alias information in NetSight Console Event logs
  • Port Alias is configured on the switch
  • Event in NetSight Console is configured with edit override content to display $alarmsubcomponent
  • Upgrade to NetSight 6.3 and port alias is no longer displayed properly in the subcomponent field under the trap event view
Environment
NetSight Console
Cause
NetSight's PortNameCache does not have the correct alias cached
Resolution
Once the cache is cleared, the next time there is a trap on the interface it will cause the NetSight to query the device for port alias, but will not wait for the result and still show no alias in the event. Once the port alias data is cached you should see it in subsequent alarms.

To manually purge the cache from the system in OneView click "Administration > Diagnostics > (Advanced) > System > Port Name Cache > Clear Cache.

Additional notes
Issue discovered with NetSight 6.3 is corrected in the Early Access release of ExtremeControl.  For access to the Early Access Release please contact the GTAC and have the following information available:

Valid contract with NetSight support
Entitlement ID for NetSight, or Existing license

The Port Name Cache will not timeout entries.  By default there is a limit of 10,000 entries in the list.  If that limit is reached then old entries will be removed for the new ones.  This can be increase by changing the option in OneView.  Select Administration > Options > Name Resolution > Port Name Resolution.  Adjust the value for Maximum Cached Resolutions.  Click Save to the bottom right.
