TitleV2110 upgrade to v10.11 fails
Symptoms
After upgrading a V2110 to v10.11 or higher firmware you cannot:
  • cannot access the gui
  • cannot ping the controller
  • may not be able to login as admin to the shell
  • may see "end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector xxxxxxx" errors at the console in vshpere
Example messaging seen in console session:
VFS: Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
Environment
  • Identifi Wireless V2110 controller
Cause
The problem is due to an issue with the new 64bit kernel in v10.11 and the buslogic SCSI VMware controller.
 
Resolution
To resolve the issue simply poweroff the V2110. Edit the virtual machine settings, and select the paravirtual SCSI controller instead. Then power up the vm. Please check the configuration and test system to make sure everything is working properly. If not please call into the GTAC for further assistance.
