TitleVDX - Edge Loop Detection (ELD) configured with a shutdown-time but the parameter is not properly displayed
Symptoms
VDX with edge-loop-detection configured with a shutdown-time of 2 minutes:
protocol edge-loop-detection
shutdown-time 2
"show edge-loop-detection detail" shows the following:
Enabled on VLANs: 2,24,41-42,47-52,95-100,104-105,108-111,200,232,400-401,900,2100-2101
Priority: 128
Protocol status: UP
Auto enable in: Never
Note: shutdown-time is the number of minutes to wait before re-enabling a port that has been disabled due to ELD.  It would appear that this output is incorrect...
Environment
  • VDX
  • Firmware version 7.0.2c
  • Edge Loop Detection (ELD)
Cause
This output is, in fact, correct.  "Auto enable in:" will display how long before a port that has been actively shutdown due to ELD will come back up.  This output does not tell you what you have configured, but rather what is currently happening.  Since there is no active shutdown due to ELD in this instance, this will display "Never".  If there were an active ELD incident, this would be counting down until the port would again become active.
Resolution
This is functioning as designed, though the output is somewhat misleading.  In order to confirm current configuration parameters, use "show edge-loop-detection globals"
VDX1# show edge-loop-detection globals

Edge-loop-detection global configuration values are as below:

PDU receive limit (packets): 5
Shutdown-time (minutes): 2
Hello-time (msec): 1000
MAC-refresh time (sec): 0
MAC-refresh type: N/A
