« Go Back

Information

TitleWS-C25 Wireless Controller Fan LED Flashes Red
Symptoms
  • The fan LED on the front left of the unit flashes red
  • Single system fan is still spinning so does not appear to have failed.
Environment
  • WS-C25
  • Firmware 8.11.07.0007 or lower
Cause
  • Old system BIOS
  • Bona-Fide Failed fan
Resolution
Confirm the fan status by doing the following:
  1. SSH to the controller, logging in with admin and password.
  2. Verify the CPU Temp with the command 'show system_state info'.
  3. Compare the response to the following examples:
*Good Fan, old BIOS*
System Temperature: 42 C

CPU Temperature: 39 C
System Fan: 6135 RPM
System Fan: 6135 RPM

*Bad Fan, old BIOS*
System Temperature: 42 C
CPU Temperature: 39 C
System Fan: 0 RPM
System Fan: 6135 RPM

*Good Fan, new BIOS*
System Temperature: 42 C
CPU Temperature: 39 C
System Fan: Disabled
System Fan: 6135 RPM

    4.  If the "Good Fan, old BIOS" data is present, you can reboot the controller and the LED blinking red will disappear.

In this case upgrade to firmware 8.21.01.0198 or higher. This is the long-term fix, so the flashing red LED symptom should not recur unless a fan has truly failed.

     5.   If the "Bad Fan, old BIOS" data is present, please contact support to request RMA replacement..
Additional notes
Normal temperature should be less than 60C and Sys FAN is ~ 2800 or above RPM, with the fan confirmed to be spinning.
