Information

TitleWhy don't I get an IPv6 DHCP address on my wireless client?
Symptoms
Not obtaining an IPv6 address on the wireless client
Environment
  • Identifi
  • DHCPv6
  • IPv6
  • DHCP
  • 10.11 and later
Cause
DHCPv6 uses a multicast address ff02::1:2 for the solicit message, and by default multicast is not enabled.
Resolution
To get this working go to the "VNS" - topology screen in the GUI, then click on “multicast filters”, enable the checkmark at “multicast bridging” and at the bottom set the mark to “defined groups” where you should select either “mDNS/Bonjour (FF02::FB)” or “All V6 Multicast (FF00::/8)” and then click “add” and save.

After this DHCPv6 should work and the wireless client should obtain an IPv6 address from your DHCPv6 server.
