Environment
  • Extreme Control
  • Windows 802.1x deployment
  • Restricted Computer Authentication Role
Cause
Windows computer is unable to communicate on required port in the role provided by computer authentication and must time out some connections before logging in.
Resolution
  1. Change the "Computer Authenticated" role to be completed open on a test switch
  2. Take a trace on the computer port to capture the traffic and run it through the Wireshark tool in Policy Manager against the normal Computer Authenticated role
  3. Identify the dropped traffic
  4. Determine what service is used and either prevent that service from running or open up the computer authenticated role accordingly
