Symptoms
Wireless error when trying to upgrade AP: invalid file: wrong ap_type 0000000c
Following seen in the log during upgrade attempt:

No core files while upgrading
/usr/sbin/image_upgrade1: Clean up and exit with return value 4

In the above example, part# WS-AP3805i was manually added to controller but as part# WS-AP3825i so when upgrade tries to take place it attempts to push the 3825i image to a 3805i AP
Environment
  • Extreme Wireless
  • IdentiFi Wireless
  • All software versions
Cause
When AP's are manually added to the controller as the incorrect model type, the above error will show up during upgrade attempt in the ap.log
Resolution
  • Delete AP from the controller and let it re-register which should auto-fill the correct AP type
  • AP upgrade should be possible now
