Information

TitleXMC Policy - Enforce redirect rule to EWC doesn't write the rule action correctly
Symptoms
  • Redirect rules are enforced but show up on the controller with an Allow rule action rather than redirect
  • Rule Action shows as disabled for redirect
Environment
  • Extreme Wireless Controller - EWC
  • Extreme Management Center - XMC
  • Policy Manager
  • XMC 8.3.0.111
Cause
  • Redirect rule can't be used by a global service.  Only local services may use a redirect rule.
  • Software anomaly caused by trying to use a global service for the redirect rule type impacts the display.
Resolution
Set the Redirect, Port Mirror, & Quarantine rules from Global to Local and make sure the Role(s) are pointing to the local service.  This would need to be done for each domain using these rules.

Following this process will resolve the display issue where the panel is not showing the correct rule action.
  1. Select the rule
  2. Open the create redirect group view
  3. Create the redirect URL for index 1
  4. Save the domain
  5. Reopen the domain
  6. Select the redirect group for the rule action.
  7. Enforce and the action is written correctly.
Additional notes
This also affects Port Mirror and Quarantine actions and is currently scheduled for a fix in version 8.4; the ability to set a global service for these rule types will be disabled
