freeRADIUS engine will not start

TitlefreeRADIUS engine will not start
Symptoms
  • Extreme Control not processing RADIUS requests
  • Extreme control restart does not show freeRADIUS restart in /var/log/radius.log
  • Extreme Control indicates service is not running using following command: 
    nacctl status
  • Extreme Control indicates radius is not running with command:
    /etc/init.d/radius status
  • Upgrade from 6.2 --> 7.1.1.9
  • Output of 
    /opt/nac/radius/sbin/radiusd -CX
    Indicates the following:
    WARNING: No such configuration item .:instance
    /opt/nac/radius/raddb/mods-enabled/preprocess[16]: Reference "${modconfdir}/${.:instance}" not found
    Errors reading or parsing /opt/nac/radius/raddb/radiusd.conf
Environment
Extreme Control
Cause
Failed upgrade of freeRADIUS from 2.2.7 to 3.0 while successful replacement of freeRADIUS configuration files. FreeRADIUS 3.0 configuration file is not supported in freeRADIUS 2.2.7
Resolution
  1. Attempt upgrade again with the upgrade.bin file
  2. If upgrade doesn't work redeploy Extreme Control Server
